The biggest mistake I made when running my almost 8-figure agency?
Only hiring Americans.
I didn't realize the mistake I made until recently.
Part naivety, part ego.
At the time my reasons were good-natured.
"Americans need jobs too" was where my head was at.
They still do.
But at what cost?
Compared to 5 years ago the knowledge gap is essentially gone.
We can get someone with the same expertise and the same skills, that just happens to live outside the US for a fraction of the cost.
But the cost savings isn't even the primary reason to hire people abroad.
That's a bonus.
As a business, what do you get when you hire at home?
A bunch of red tape...
Payroll taxes...
Paying a higher salary bc of where they live...
Lawsuit risks...
Let's not forget...
The entitled attitudes.
Shit.
I remember I hired this rock star team member one time. His work experience was next level.
Good vibe, and great charisma. The whole package.
Or so I thought.
The first week on the team he asked to take the next week off to go to Mexico.
Don't get me wrong, I'm all for Mexico and living la vida loca.
But not after 5 days on a new team.
He would show up to calls late.
Do sloppy work...
The bare minimum to get by.
Let's just say he interviewed well.
It was a real Jekyll and Hyde situation.
Long story short, he didn't last very long.
I've noticed this pattern with a lot of Americans I've hired over the years.
They act like they're doing you a favor by showing up.
Little to no excitement.
And a degradation in their quality of work over time.
Whereas, when I hire overseas...
They could not be more excited for the opportunity to contribute and grow.
It is quite the juxtaposition.

I'm working on something new to help companies find high-quality overseas marketing talent.
More to come next week...
But if you need people, shoot me a reply.
