I read the book Smart Cuts a while back and just cracked that bad boy open again to re-review my notes.

Maybe you read it, or maybe you didn't (if not you should).

Anyways...

The overarching takeaway is that getting what you want is all about working smarter, not harder.

Ie. What is the fastest path to the desired outcome?

Let's say you want to become CMO.

You could start at the bottom and work your way up the soul-sucking corporate ladder.

Orrrrrr you could hack your way to the top by forcing your way in by being successful elsewhere.

But this concept of 'Smart Cuts' can be applied to a heck of a lot more than climbing the corporate ladder.

Let's take your very own marketing for example...

There are marketing levers you can pull that provide outsized performance (sales) with less effort compared to other things.

Common examples of time wasters are:

1. Tweaking button colors

2. Spending hours trying to figure out what to post on social

3. Using ChatGPT to come up with your email copy

4. Doing everything yourself

5. Hiring someone to do something and redoing whatever they do

6. Waiting until an email or an ad is 'perfect' before putting it out there

7. Packing boxes

But...

There is a faster path to more customers than tweaking button colors.

Especially if you know what levers to pull they will have a massive impact on your sales with relative ease.

The two biggest levers I've found in my 18 years as a marketer are

1) your lead optin rate and

2) how efficiently leads/contacts are turned into customers.

Those two itty bitty things right there could very well drive you 5X more new customers relatively quickly.

I've seen it with my very eyes time and time again.

So much so that I'd estimate that half of the $200+ mil in sales I've driven for clients is from optimizing these two levers alone.

The saddest thing about it...

Most people "want more sales" but aren't doing straightforward things like this to make the most out of all the traffic they're already getting.
